Composting Initiatives
Turning Food Waste into New Life

Every year, tons of food waste end up in landfills where it produces harmful greenhouse gases like methane. But there’s a simple, natural solution: composting. Composting transforms food scraps and organic waste into nutrient-rich soil that can be used in gardens, parks, and farms. By composting, we not only reduce waste but also create something valuable for our environment.

What is Composting?

Composting is the process of breaking down organic waste - such as fruit peels, vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, and yard trimmings — into healthy soil. It’s a natural recycling system powered by bacteria, fungi, and worms.

When you compost:

  • You reduce landfill waste.

  • You cut harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

  • You create natural fertilizer that enriches the soil.

How You Can Start Composting at Home

Composting doesn’t require a garden or big space. Anyone can do it!

  • Kitchen Composting: Use a small indoor bin for fruit & veggie scraps.

  • Balcony Composting: Compact composters or bokashi bins are perfect for small apartments.

  • Garden Composting: Outdoor compost piles or bins are ideal for families with green space.

Tip: Avoid meat, dairy, and oily foods — they don’t compost well and can attract pests.

Our Composting Initiatives

As part of No Waste, More Share, we are:

  • Providing guides and workshops on how to compost at home.

  • Running school seminars to teach young people the importance of composting.

  • Partnering with local gardens and parks where community members can drop off their organic waste.

  • Exploring shared composting sites for neighborhoods and communities.

Why Composting Matters to Us

Food that goes into the trash is wasted twice: first as lost food, second as lost resources. Composting is one of the simplest ways to fight food waste and climate change at the same time. By joining our composting initiatives, you help:

  • Feed the soil, not the landfill.

  • Reduce climate impact.

  • Build a greener, more sustainable future.

Get Involved!

  • Want to start composting but don’t know how? Here are a few simple ways you can begin:
